Riley B King Sessions

L-R. Jamie Little (Drums), Steve (Guitars), Christian Nokes (Bass).

Riley B King, a feature video on the lessons page, was recorded over two sessions at the Studio 1 at the Performance Hub, in late August 2014. The backing track was done first and I was joined by two good friends, Jamie Little on drums and Christian Nokes on bass guitar, who agreed to do it the day before!

I used a Mesa Lonestar to track the guitar parts here but on the final backing track you will only hear these parts as the chord sections behind the solos - with a great rotary effect provided by the Strymon Mobius on my pedalboard. We ran the track live three times and the third take is the one you hear. It took less than two hours. I the returned a week later to film the video and played along with the backing track we recorded - the audio/ video for the final version is also one take, no dubs, and strangely it was also the third pass. I used an Orange amp with a BB preamp for the solos but only because the output tube blew on the Mesa. Oops.

The backing track really grooves and is great to jam over and this was my intention. Whether you choose to learn the piece or simply use it for jamming it's a free download from my store
